CLEVELAND, OH – (February 15, 2019) – Great Lakes Science Center’s newest special exhibition covers a topic with a lot of fans and a long history in Northeast Ohio – cars!

The Science Center is turning automobiles inside out and exploring the science, technology, engineering and math that makes them go in Vroom! A Car Adventure, opening March 15. You won’t need a license to get hands on in this expansive new exhibition, developed and curated in-house by the Science Center’s Exhibits team. From a Tot Garage area for the youngest tinkerers to an exhibit that demonstrates how self-driving cars are able to see using a LIDAR sensor, Vroom! is sure to get every guest’s curiosity racing.

Build your own car and race it on the giant Derby Dash ramps. Experiment with force and motion using toy cars on the Physics Playground -- complete with loops, winding ramps and customizable magnetic tracks, and rev up your imagination in the immersive Super Service Center where kids can make believe they are a mechanic by changing a tire, replacing the oil or installing a muffler!

Go “Under the Hood” and build a gear train and learn about how the different parts of the engine work together. See how fast you can get off the line when you test your reflexes with our drag-racing tree, make your own license plate rubbing, race a robotic arm while trying to complete a circuit maze, and pose for a photo in a Formula SAE race car.

Get creative and design your own car using a backlit tracing table and discover how aerodynamics affect automobile design using a full-body augmented reality wall.

“A large part of Cleveland’s reputation as a manufacturing center is linked to the automotive industry,” said President & CEO Kirsten Ellenbogen. “This exhibition allows us to not only explore the marvels of STEM in automotive design and engineering, but also to collaborate with our inspiring corporate partners such as Timken, Rockwell Automation and Lincoln Electric. Our regional strength in automotive work has allowed us to create an exhibition that is unique and very special for our guests.”

Wall-to-wall (and bumper to bumper), the Vroom! exhibition is packed like an SUV on a family road trip with interactive fun for guests of all ages. And best of all, Vroom! is included with the
price of general admission! So make tracks for the Science Center, Vroom! runs March 15 through September 2!

(Editor’s note: The Science Center’s normal fall/winter operating schedule is Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays, but will be open Monday, February 18 (Presidents Day) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Curiosity Carnival event.)
