BioMedTech: Engineering for Your Health
 Discover the rapidly advancing field of medicine at Great Lakes Science Center. The BioMedTech: Engineering for Your Health gallery engages visitors in an exploration of the advances in medical technology and engineering. These medical innovations provide health care professionals and scientists with the tools to improve public and personal health.
BioMedTech is funded by a Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA), an educational award program supported by the National Center for Research Resources, a division of the  National Institutes of Health. Great Lakes Science Center has partnered with Case Western Reserve University in the development of the exhibition and related programs.
BioMedTech Exhibits
Enter the BioMedTech gallery and explore six areas of biomedical technology and engineering: genomics, stem cells, prosthetics, functional electrical stimulation (FES), infectious disease and medical imaging. Learn how these cutting-edge technologies and medical disciplines unite to impact our lives. Gallery formats include interactive exhibits, informational videos, personal accounts and educational displays.
Control a robotic prosthetic arm; examine engineering changes in the development of prosthetics; observe microscopic images of infectious agents; and learn about positron emission tomography (PET) scan technology. Get up close to a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine; explore the inside of a stomach with an endoscopic camera; and learn about the work being done by local researchers, scientists and businesses to develop innovative medical technologies.
Mobile Explorer Carts
Facilitated by Great Lakes Science Center education staff, hands-on activity carts circulate daily, providing visitors with an up-close and interactive look at biomedical technology. Explore the flexibility of genetic code, manipulate tiny tools and simulate minimally invasive surgery techniques. Educational Programming
BioMedTech: Students Translating and Exploring Medicine (BMT: STEM) is a multi-faceted educational program that engages students and Science Center visitors in understanding health and wellness though the lens of biomedical research. BMT: STEM showcases local researchers from the Cleveland Clinic and Translational Science Collaborative and explores how different approaches to research help to prevent and improve treatments for diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease. BMT: STEM’s diverse offerings include a speaker series, a classroom distance learning program and more. Programs align with national and state standards to supplement classroom instruction. BMT Speaker Series
Presented to both school groups and the general public, the BMT Speakers Series presents a rare opportunity to meet world-renowned biomedical and engineering professionals and learn about the latest research in their fields. BMT Speaker Series presentations are offered on select Fridays to school groups and on select Saturdays to the general public.

Distance Learning Program
Students, teachers, schools and science centers nationwide can participate in real-time presentations with leading biomedical technology and engineering professionals via Interactive Video Distance Learning and web streaming.

Health Careers Exploration Day

The fifth annual Health Careers and Exploration Day will give Cleveland area school students the opportunity to expand their knowledge of biomedical research careers. Students will meet and interact with invited guest speakers as well as representatives from local community and higher education organizations to learn about careers in the biomedical research fields. Career Kiosk
A Career Kiosk is currently available in the BioMedTech gallery, providing students with the opportunity to learn, discover and explore biomedical technology and engineering careers. Using the latest touch-screen technology, students will browse biomedical technology and engineering career information, video interviews with professionals and links to local employers, colleges and universities.

LifeWorks® E-Mentoring
LifeWorks E-Mentoring is a free e-mentoring program that helps high school and college students interested in biomedical science, behavioral and social science, dental and healthcare careers find a mentor. Mentors are carefully screened science, healthcare and education professionals who volunteer to provide information, guidance and support as students develop their careers.
