CLEVELAND (May 27, 2026) – Meet Lenny, an African penguin in search of a lifelong partner, who is willing to make every effort to impress that special female penguin. Lenny is just one of the penguins you will meet on their search for love in “Penguins: A Love Tale,” opening in the Cleveland Clinic DOME Theater at Great Lakes Science Center on June 1.
 
There are plenty of obstacles in Lenny’s way, including great white sharks and a brewing storm. Will Lenny be able to find a mate for life like the other penguins on the beach?
 
Mark Fox, the film’s director, calls the documentary the very first penguin “Rom-Com,” a wildlife story for a family audience.
 
“Penguins, once they find their mate, pair up for life,” Fox said. “The story is firmly based in science, but we wanted to tell it in a way that would appeal to everyone from children to grandparents. For younger audiences, we told a simple story about a lonely penguin looking for a friend. Older children will get a wider understanding of the science and conservation of penguins, and adults will appreciate the stunning cinematography and the sense of humor.”
 
Viewers will also meet others working to help ensure the survival of these creatures, from the humans at a penguin hospital to a paw patrol of Maremma dogs working to project the nests and eggs of fairy penguins.
