Are you passionate about science and love to spark curiosity? Join us! As a volunteer, you'll help inspire future innovators, assist with hands-on exhibits, prepare materials for hands-on activities, or fill other behind-the-scenes roles that help Great Lakes Science Center inspire people of all ages. Whether you're a STEM enthusiast or just love connecting with people, there's a place for you here.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Some opportunities require additional experience and education. All applicants are required to fill out an application form and undergo a background check to ensure a good match for both the volunteer and the Science Center.

William G. Mather
Join us aboard our historic steamship, the William G. Mather! As a volunteer, you'll help preserve and showcase maritime history to visitors of all ages. Share the ship's fascinating stories, assist with tours, and engage guests with interactive exhibits that bring the golden age of steam navigation throughout the Great Lakes to life. Whether you're passionate about history, maritime heritage, or simply love connecting with people, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to our mission of education and preservation in a dynamic museum environment.
*Note: Due to its historic nature, the Mather is not a fully accessible attraction and can be difficult to maneuver for those with mobility or vision issues.

Guest Engagement
Join our dedicated team and inspire curiosity through hands-on science exhibits, engaging demonstrations, and educational programs. As a volunteer, you'll play a key role in enhancing guest experiences, assisting with interactive displays, and supporting special events that promote science literacy and exploration. Guest Engagement volunteers are found in all of the Science Center’s galleries including the NASA Glenn Visitor Center and the Science Phenomena Gallery.
*Note: This role does require movement/standing for long periods of time and can be in areas that are loud.
Guest Services
Help create memorable experiences for guests by providing friendly assistance and directions, answering questions, and being a greeter for the museum. Your welcoming smile and enthusiasm will ensure guests feel informed and valued throughout their visit. Whether you're interested in gaining experience in customer service, sharing your passion for science, or simply enjoy interacting with people, this role offers a rewarding opportunity to support our mission of inspiring curiosity and discovery in science and the surrounding area.
