About Thrill Ride: The Forces of Fun

Accelerate into the exciting world of physics! Use mechanics, matter and magnetism to make an impact. Create the perfect balance of excitement and learning so you don’t lose momentum over the summer!

Campers learn the physics behind their favorite theme park rides from gravity defying free falls to speedy roller coasters. Force, mass and distance will come into play exploring ping pong ball roller coasters and water ride boat regattas!

The Science Center’s newest exhibition, Vroom! A Car Adventure, is featured in this camp as well. Campers will work as a team to design and build the fastest car and have opportunities to explore the exhibition. Younger campers will get into “Motion Mania” and build rubber band cars, while older campers combine chemistry with physics to build chemical reaction cars. Check out this sneak peek video.

Your camper won’t need a license to take the hands-on fun in this camp for a spin! As a bonus feature, all Thrill Ride campers are eligible for Camp Curiosity Day at Cedar Point on July 2. See below for details!

Bonus: Camp Curiosity Day at Cedar Point

Are roller coasters the most fun application of physics? If you took a poll in any classroom in America, the answer just might be yes! Join Great Lakes Science Center for a fun-filled field trip to Cedar Point Amusement Park for Camp Curiosity Day.
The Science Center will take students from grades K-8 on buses to the amusement park on Tuesday, July 2. Parents can drop off their child at the Science Center at 8:30 a.m. for a 9 a.m. departure. Science Center staff will supervise small groups of kids on rides around the park. Groups will be separated by riding ability (including height). The buses will depart Cedar Point at 5 p.m. and the campers will return to the Science Center between 5:30-6 p.m.

Tickets are $60 per child and include transportation, park admission and a reusable souvenir water bottle. Campers should bring a brown-bag lunch which will be stored in coolers in one of the park’s picnic pavilions.

This event is open to all Thrill Ride: The Forces of Fun camp registrants if you register by June 16. To register for this bonus day, call the registration office at (216) 621-2400.
