CLEVELAND (May 22, 2023) – The Cleveland Clinic DOME Theater at Great Lakes Science Center is going prehistoric for the summer to accompany the new dinosaur exhibition Dinosaurs of the Sahara! A new dinosaur movie, especially suited for younger viewers, and the return of a recent favorite will highlight the theater’s summer screenings, both of which will open May 26, the same day as the special exhibition.

“Dino Dana: The Movie” is an action-packed dinosaur adventure that finds 10-year-old Dana, who sees dinosaurs in the real world, completing an experiment that asks where all the kid dinosaurs are. To find the answer, Dana, her older sister Saara, and their new neighbors Mateo and Jadiel go on a dinosaur journey bigger than anything Dana has ever faced before, including a momma T-rex who thinks Mateo is one of her babies, a stampede of Triceratops, a Spinosaurus and a Quetzalcoatlus! During their adventure they come to realize that family, whether human or Jurassic, is the most important quest of all. “Dino Dana: The Movie” is featured in a slightly smaller than full-dome screen ratio, making it perfect for families with young children.

Making its roaring return by popular demand, “Dinosaurs of Antarctica” is back this summer at the DOME Theater. From the Permian through the Jurassic, journey to the south polar landscapes of Antarctica hundreds of millions of years ago. Roam the primitive forests and thick swamps with unique dinosaurs and colossal amphibians. Enter a surreal world of bug-eyed giants and egg-laying mammals -- where survival means enduring the sunless, six-month polar winter surrounded by meat-eaters with night-vision.

Join intrepid Antarctic scientists on a quest to understand the ice continent’s profound transformation – and to predict the future as humans drive dramatic change. Welcome to the lost world of Gondwana. Welcome to Antarctica.

“Dinosaurs of Antarctica” was produced by Giant Screen Films. Major funding was provided by the National Science Foundation.

And don’t miss the Science Center’s special exhibition Dinosaurs of the Sahara, a whole new dinosaur experience, making its world debut from May 26 through September 4.

Created by Dr. Paul Sereno and the team at the University of Chicago’s Fossil Lab, Dinosaurs of the Sahara brings the unique world of African dinosaurs to life with original fossils, one-of-a-kind mounted skeletons and flesh models, and real footage from the field.

When the exhibition opens, guests will get to touch real fossils, including a SuperCroc skull, and relive the excitement and adventure of Dr. Sereno’s recent ground-breaking Saharan expeditions with an interactive dinosaur dig site. Get an up-close look at Africa’s greatest predators, including Spinosaurus and Africa’s T-rex-sized predator, Carcharodontosaurus. Meet some of the most unique plant-eating dinosaurs imaginable, like Nigersaurus, nicknamed the “Mesozoic cow,” and see where and how these amazing creatures were discovered.

Look overhead at a pterosaur with a 16-foot wingspan, and see mounted skeletons of the prehistoric predators Afrovenator and Suchomimus and skulls of other favorites like Spinosaurus and Rugops

Starting in the early ‘90s, Sereno and his team began to focus their expeditions on Africa’s lost worlds of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. They have excavated more than 100 tons of fossils, bringing to light a menagerie of new species, many of which will be on exhibit here at the Science Center.

Dinosaurs of the Sahara is included with general admission. Plan your visit at GreatScience.com. For more information about the Fossil Lab’s incredible discoveries, visit paulsereno.uchicago.edu/fossil_lab.
