CLEVELAND (September 12, 2022) – Great Lakes Science Center will host more than 500 middle and high school students during its second annual Manufacturing Day on Tuesday, October 4, presented by Rockwell Automation and Swagelok, a unique showcase of the modern manufacturing industry designed to give area students exposure to future career possibilities. The Science Center will be closed to the general public for this special event.

Students from across Northeast Ohio, including the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Maple Heights, Shaker Heights, Ranger High Tech, Rootstown, West Geauga, Twinsburg, Mayfield, Kirtland, the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center and Richmond Heights will have the opportunity to interact with representatives from several leading manufacturing and technology companies and colleges, and get hands-on with fun STEM activities at the same time.

“Manufacturing Day done as an ecosystem of companies, educational providers and partners helps educate and demystify the misconceptions of the advanced manufacturing space; our hands on activities, career panels and informational areas truly generate thought, capture the attention and bring out the creativity amongst the attendees,” said Marzell Brown, Rockwell Automation’s IOT Engineering and Academic Enablement Manager.

Local manufacturing partners will bring more than 100 volunteers to the event including Rockwell Automation, Swagelok, The Timken Company, Lincoln Electric, Saint-Gobain, Olympic Steel, Sherwin-Williams and PPG Industries.

Interactive sessions for the students will include insights from industry professionals on their manufacturing career experiences, a career panel, overviews of each company, and hands-on activities.

“Swagelok is a long-time supporter of STEM education and training from high school programs to college and technical training,” said Chris Miklich, chief financial officer for Swagelok Company and a member of the Science Center’s Board of Directors. “We’re excited to have this opportunity to connect with Northeast Ohio students about rewarding careers in modern manufacturing.”

Manufacturing Day is a nationwide effort, typically held in early October, to show students what the world of modern manufacturing is all about. New technologies are developed on a daily basis and bring about whole new careers, requiring a skilled workforce interested in pursuing them. Together with the National Association of Manufacturers, The Manufacturing Institute, MEP Centers, and federal agency partners, the Manufacturing USA network celebrates the manufacturers who make the products that strengthen our economic security and provide opportunities for the nation’s workforce.
