CLEVELAND (September 23, 2019) – We had such a great time this summer celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing and learning about the moon that we decided we couldn’t let summer go without one more salute to our celestial neighbor. 
 
Join Great Lakes Science Center Saturday, September 28 to celebrate the new moon and the end of summer on Over the Moon Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
 
Guests of all ages will be able to learn more about our authentic moon rock and Apollo command module, see amazing live science demonstrations, design and build a lunar rover using recycled materials, explore the night sky in our inflatable planetarium, play putt putt “on the moon” and get hands-on with the augmented and virtual reality technology used by NASA Glenn’s Research Center Graphics and Visualization Lab. 
 
Over the Moon Day activities schedule: 
 
Lunar Geology Chat
Time: 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Meet our moon rock and learn more about our Apollo capsule, lunar missions, and the properties of the moon as we investigate the lunar landscape and imagine living on the moon’s surface. Be sure to check out our Mission to STEM app (iOS only) or borrow an iPad from the box office to explore the capsule in augmented reality and more!  
 
Chemistry and Combustion Show
Time 12:15 p.m.
Chemistry comes alive as potential energy becomes sound, light and excitement in this high energy show full of color, chemistry and combustion. 
 
Lift Off Big Science Show
Time: 2:15 p.m.
The first step to exploring space is getting off the ground. Watch in wonder as we explore the forces and fuel that make landing on the moon possible in this explosively fun demonstration. 
 
DIY Recyclable Rovers
Time: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
Flex your engineering and design muscles while using recycled materials to design and build your own lunar rover. Be sure to take a photo of your rover and share it with us. 
 
StarLab Inflatable Planetarium
Time: 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m.
Enter our inflatable planetarium and come with us on a journey through the stars. Use your imagination to land on the moon, explore the night sky, and take a moment to learn about the phases of the moon and NASA’s plans to return to the moon in 2024. Space is limited and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. 
 
Putt Putt on the Moon
Time: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
We turn our gallery into a replica of the surface of the moon and transport you there to putt putt into craters and avoid obstacles. Design your own moon putt putt course using material found on the moon. 
 
NASA Glenn Research Center Graphics and Visualization Lab (GVIS)
Time: Noon to 3 p.m.
Strap on a headset and explore the augmented and virtual reality technology GVIS uses at NASA Glenn Research Center for the visualization of scientific data, engineering analysis, and mission scenarios. Be sure to find out what we learned from a walk on the moon. 
 
(Editor’s note: The Science Center’s fall-winter schedule is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. The Science Center is closed on Mondays and during all Cleveland Browns daytime home games.)
